Charles Webb, Architect in Melbourne, Australia

Submitted by Patricia Webb (member no 476)

Charles Webb, born Suffolk, England on 26th November 1821, migrated to south eastern Australia in 1849 in the wake of his older brother James.  Charles and James, who were both architects, joined forces for some time to design some of the earliest & most prestigious buildings in Melbourne.  Charles then joined another partnership and went on to design many more buildings, be they for businesses, residential homes, churches, colleges etc.  A number of his buildings are illustrated below and an Australian Google search will provide much information about Charles for those who have an interest; also as many of the buildings are heritage listed there is a good cover of his work on www.aussieheritage.com.au.
